Flashy Fun!

I love the internet! Really!

Now you might be wondering why I would say something like that just out of the blue, but let me assure you there is a good reason. First of all, there are so many talented people out there and for some reason put a whole lot of effort into creating something just for the pure joy of sharing it with others. Case in point (and this bring me to the main point of this entry!) - Flash Movies.

It never ceases to amaze me the amount of effort that these people put into what is essentially a hobby. Sometimes the animation quality is on par with the big-budget movies out of Disney. Fair enough, the people who do them probably do work in the animation industry to begin with. Anyway, here I shall link to a couple of my favourites, but be sure to visit www.newgrounds.com for a hell of a lot more...

Xombie - James Farr

This is the one that introduced me to the whole concept of episodic flash-based animated stories. It is simply one of the best out there. I definately won't ruin it for you by telling you what it is about, but suffice to say the story is very well thought out and as it gradually reveals itself through the chapters (there are 7 so far), you can't help but love the characters. Now for any 3 minute long animation that is no mean feat! In fact apparently the peeps in Hollywood have taken notice of this work and have signed the creator on to make it into a full length feature!

Bitey of Brackenwood - Adam Phillips

Ok, now for the most fun, random flash animation I have ever seen! It is a series based on the character of Bitey - a mean, unfriendly, reclusive, half-human half-goat(?!) monster who lives in Brackenwood. The episodes are not meant to be watched in any partcular order (except the last two). They are basically just fun! And even though there is no speech, there is awesome celtic themed music and it fits perfectly with the setting. But the standout feature of this is definately the sheer quality of the animation. You can see that the author improves his skills dramatically over the course of the series. The last two are simply amazing!

Heh, anyway thats that. Enjoy!
